The Moves: Toward Strategic Sustainability |
|
|---|---|
Build on Polanyi's embedded economy |
Not the formal economy of the "productionist metaphysics" of, uh, economic science. Rebuilding starts here. |
Polanyi's Double Movement |
Basic. The first movement is laissez faire, which derives the response, or second movement, the reaction to laissez faire. |
Energize emergent Civil Society |
The missing ingredient in the mix of Strategic Sustainability, a basic building block. |
Scrutinize industries, not corporations |
Each industry can be examined for sustainability, typically from model of industrial ecology, a superior but accepted method from criticism of this corporation or that. |
Continue to challenge the prevailing global order |
Upset the consensus. Easy to do. Hard to unscramble once scrambled. So, scramble. |
Rebuild the global order from below: PanRegionalism, cosmopolitan regionalism, communities, households |
This is the essential move toward Strategic Sustainability. Quite consistent with the tradition of Social Ecology. |
Let consumers know . . . |
and boycott bad actors. This works. |
