World Sustainability Learning Module #1 Assessment

Below please find a scenario to guide your essay and find the link for the graphic organizer for Learning Module #1.

Grading Scenario

Your former high school teacher discovered that you are taking a course about world sustainability. She recognized that few students had ever had the opportunity to ponder such a daunting topic. Yet she knew that world sustainability was essential to her field-oriented (therefore local) Environmental Science Honors Course. She called on you to visit the class to deliver a college-level talk on world sustainability. You have accepted.

She wants a five to ten minute talk, but there is no computer display in the classroom, so PowerPoint is out. She asks for two products from you:

  1. A one-page graphic organizer that sums up major aspects of world sustainability on a single page that can be distributed. (Worth 5 points toward your grade in ENST209.)
  2. She would like to see your talk in advance in the form of a brief essay, a five to six page double-spaced, 12-point font MS Word document. Assume that her students have done all our readings, so you should refer to concepts you have learned in ENST209. (Worth 10 points towards your grade in ENST209.)

She would like your essay and graphic organizer to be delivered as an attachment to her email account, enst209@gmail.com, no later than October 2.

Implementation

The point of the scenario should be obvious to you. If you don't understand the assignment, email us or, better still, contribute to the Learning Module Assignment #1 Wiki, which has been established to answer your questions and respond to your comments.

You can upload the sustainability graphic organizer from the Learning Module Assignment #1 Wiki. Your essay should refer frequently to the readings from Learning Module #1, referenced by either the MLA standards or the APA standards. Please limit your opinions to the conclusion, not to the body and certainly not to the introduction.

This assignment is worth a total of 15 points and is due on October 2. Again, please attach your essay and graphic organizer to enst209@gmail.com.

We will grade you on both the graphic organizer (5 points) and the essay (10 points). We will follow the grading criteria displayed in the syllabus (depth, content, integration, style) but will not break down the 10 points by criteria but grade the essay in total. For example, 8.1 is a low B and 9.5 is A+. We will make remarks and send the graded essay (not the organizer) back with our comments.
