Course Description, Goals, and Requirements

The Capstone Project culminates the Ramapo College Master of Arts in Sustainability Studies. Participants will conclude the final project and gain experience in making professional presentations to jury panels. The Capstone Project will be conducted as a seminar built on collaboration and participation.

The goal of the Capstone Project is that students will conclude two major assignments that culminate their studies in the Master of Arts in Sustainability Studies:

  1. A final project that will be put on permanent file for the Master of Arts in Sustainability Studies;
  2. A formal presentation to students, faculty, and invited guests that explains the project and its outcomes.

Students are responsible for attending class, for all material covered or assigned, for completing assignments on time, and for participating in class exercises and discussions. Assignments should be done before the class for which they are assigned. Students are expected to present their own original thinking for writing assignments and oral presentations. Significant acts of plagiarism will be penalized severely and will be referred to the college for possible disciplinary action. Students are expected to attend all classes.

Classroom Collaboration: Students will actively collaborate and participate in vigorous discussion. The Capstone Project requires independent thinking and creative research.

Policy on Academic Integrity: Students are expected to heed Ramapo College’s academic integrity policy, which can be found in the Ramapo College Catalog. Members of the Ramapo College community are expected to be honest and forthright in their academic endeavors. Students who violate this policy will receive a failing grade and may be referred to the Office of the Provost for further disciplinary action.

Students with Disabilities: Students who need course adaptation or accommodations because of a documented disability or related special circumstance should work with the Office of Special Services to appropriately inform faculty of their needs.

Grading Policy

The grade for Capstone Project will be determined by this distribution:

  1. Preliminary rough draft = 10 points;
  2. Revised draft = 20 points;
  3. Final submission = 40 points;
  4. Presentation = 20 points;
  5. Participation and collaboration = 10 points.
